What Should We Wear?

The most important thing is comfort—both feeling and looking comfortable. If something doesn’t feel good on your body, you’ll look stiff. And if you don’t feel confident in what you’re wearing, it will show. Be yourself. The more “you” you feel, the more natural your photos will look.

Style Tips:
Neutral, solid tones photograph best. Busy patterns can distract, so if someone is wearing a pattern, put it on the kids and keep the adults in simpler, solid colors. Pinterest is always great for inspo.

Weather Note:
Colorado weather is unpredictable—bring layers!

How to Prep Your Family

Think through your kids’ needs. Make sure they get good sleep, food, and a calm moment before the session. Summit County is full of things to do, but try not to squeeze in a big adventure right before your shoot.

Everyone should be fed beforehand (and feel free to bring some favorite dry snacks).

Remember: kids are kids. Good days and bad days happen! We’ll work around a schedule that suits them best.

Altitude Reminder:
If you’re coming from a lower elevation, drink plenty of water 24 hours before your session. Altitude sickness is real!

Newborn Session Notes

I’ll bring swaddles, blankets, a box, and a Moses basket. Newborns are already perfect, so I keep things simple, natural, and cozy. We’ll mostly use a bed, couch, or rocking chair.

If you have a special swaddle or outfit you love, set it out—we can definitely use it. Baby can have multiple looks (outfit, swaddled, nude, etc.). Sessions are completely baby-led, and we’ll take breaks as needed for feeding, diaper changes, and soothing.

Your house does NOT need to be spotless. You just had a baby! A quick tidy of the areas you’re comfortable using (usually the master bed, couch, or nursery chair) is plenty.
