What should I wear?
The most important thing is to be comfortable. You need to actually FEEL comfortable. This means two different things. If you wear something that doesn’t feel good (on your body), you will look unnatural. You also need to wear clothes that you think you LOOK GOOD in. Be yourself. The more you feel like yourself, the more natural your pictures will look!
Design: In general, the more neutral, solid tones, the better. If you have a lot of pattern, it can detract from the pictures. If you do use patterned clothing, put the kids in it and parents in the more solid tones. Pinterest search is always helpful for me.
Colorado weather can be unpredictable. Please be prepared with layers.
How can I prep my family?
Think about your kids’ needs! Please make sure you prep kids (and maybe husbands) with good sleep, food, and calm before the shoot. Summit county is an amazing place and it is totally understandable to pack days full with all of the fun things. If possible, don’t take kids on an epic adventure right before the shoot. Make sure everyone has been fed beforehand (and bring favorite (dry) snacks with you).
With all of that said, kids are kids! They have good days and bad, just like all of us and the adults are not in control as much as we want to be. Let’s work around a schedule that works best for them. If all else fails, I always have mini M&Ms in my bag!
One more note: We are at a high altitude. If you are coming from Denver (or even lower), drink a lot of water 24 hours in advance. Altitude sickness is a real thing!
Newborn shoot notes:
I will bring a few swaddles, blankets, a box and Moses basket. Babies are so perfect when they are born, so I try to keep the pictures very natural and comfortable for baby. We will use a bed or couch mostly. If you would like to use a special swaddle or outfit for baby, please feel free to have them out for the shoot. Baby can have multiple looks (outfit, swaddled, naked, etc.).
Newborn shoots are based all around baby’s needs. We can take breaks for feeding, diaper changes, etc.
Your house does not have to be perfectly spotless. I understand you just brought a tiny human into the world! It is a good idea to have a few areas picked up though. Most of the time, I use the master bed or couch and a rocking chair for pictures in your house.
